Can they do it?
When a DC jack breaks or stops making a consistent connection, it needs to be replaced with a new jack soldered onto the motherboard. Many shops don’t have the techs or facility to replace the jack itself. If they tell you that the motherboard has to be replaced, look elsewhere. Make sure they will completely replace the part and that they don’t just try to glue the old one back in. Even if the jack itself is intact, if it has broken loose from the motherboard, there is likely to be corrosion on the leads. This can prevent the solder from making a good bond and cause the jack to come loose again. Many shops (including local big box stores) send their more difficult repairs to a central depot or mail it to another company across the country. We do all of our repairs right here in Fort Collins, and have most jacks in stock.
Make sure that any repair shop will back up their work. We give a 1 year warranty on our jack repairs. We see many laptops that have been improperly repaired at other shops, and carried little or no warranty on the original repair. You don’t want to have to pay for the same repair twice.
When you bring your laptop to us, we will make sure that your fans and vents are free from debris and cooling the laptop properly. Many times overheating maintenance is performed at no additional charge. We will also let you know if there are any other potential issues. Make sure any repair company does the same.
If you have any questions or need to schedule a repair, please feel free to call or contact us via the website and we will make sure your laptop gets the service it needs.
